The mission of Keystone's Employment Options Program (KEO) is to assist individuals to select, obtain, and remain in the employment of their choice with success and satisfaction, with as much independence as personally possible.

While some individuals may possess skills and training that make a job choice easy for them, others may require career exploration services. Utilizing a self-directed computer program, SIGI, career options are explored, including education training and skill requirements. Assessment services may also include a situational assessment, either on a job or within one of Keystone's client-run businesses. Additionally, staff are skilled in the process of values clarification to ensure the match of personal values and skills and job or training program characteristics that predict success and satisfaction.

The many well established contacts with employers that Keystone maintains and online capability with the local State of Connecticut Job Service augments traditional avenues such as newspaper ads and word-of-mouth, to help individuals find a job. A job seeker's group sends additional support in a self-help format. Resume/cover letter composition and writing, and interview techniques are further skill needs that are reviewed and refined. Assistance with setting up interviews, and transportation if necessary, are key components of a successful job hunt.

Once employment is secured, many individuals need ongoing support, for varying lengths of time to maintain employment. Keystone staff can meet with an employee on the job or away from the job, whichever is more comfortable for the employee and/or employer. An agency-run group, the Job Club, lends continuing peer support. If job coaching is needed, this, too, can be arranged.

Keystone is a Bureau of Rehabilitation Services contractor. Keystone Employment Options is funded by the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, private donations, and the Norwalk/Wilton United Way. No fee is charged for any of its services.

Keystone's Employment Options Program presently provides services to over 65 clients.
