The mission of Keystone's Dual Diagnosis Services is to assist persons with co-existing psychiatric disabilities and substance abuse disorders to select, obtain, and maintain the community living environments of their choice with success and satisfaction, with as much independence as is personally possible while remaining as free from illegal substances and alcohol as is individually possible. Keystone's Dual Diagnosis Program delivers residential support and case management services to program participants by utilizing an integrated approach which addresses both mental health and substance abuse needs. A harm reduction philosophy ensures that individuals are not discharged due to an increase in symptoms or relapse. While program clients may reside in apartments or rooms that are scattered throughout the community, others are "clustered" within a larger apartment complex, allowing for maximum supervision for those needing and/or wanting it. Residential support services include shopping, cooking, cleaning, money management, negotiating with landlords, and the many other skill areas necessary to maintain community tenure within an independent setting. Case management services include acting as liaison with clinicians and medical providers, transportation, medication and symptom monitoring, and arranging entitlements. An individual goal oriented service plan is the central service component and ensures that skill training is individually tailored. Additionally, the program offers groups and activities focusing on relapse prevention in a self-help format. The Dual Diagnosis Program is funded by the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and private contributions. No fee is charged for program participation, rents are generally paid through individual entitlements. For more information please call (203) 855-2000. |
